These Shining Moments
Scenes from this year’s One Act Competition
One Act is a theater competition in which every aspect of a show is judged. Schools move through district, regional, and state competition rounds.
This year’s One Act show selection is These Shining Lives by Melanie Marnich. The show follows a group of four women, Catherine Donahue, Charlotte Purcell, Frances O’Connell, and Pearl Payne, and their fight against the unjust working conditions at Radium Dial Company.
Novi placed first in regionals, and moves on to the state competition at Central Michigan University on February 17, 2023.
Junior Alyssa Kraus (Student Technical Director, Stage Manager, Prop Master) sets prop watch pieces onto set during spike. Spike is a section of time allotted for One Act during which the company must set up. This includes moving and connecting their set, placing lighting equipment, taping down cables, and setting up the prop table; all within the span of 25 minutes.
