Ramen and rambunctious celebration brought together the Asian communities of Novi on February 1st. After school, a ramen party was sponsored by Dear Asian Youth Novi, Novi Japanese Club, and Chinese and Korean Club. For three dollars, students could participate in the festivities and enjoy noodles from the country of their choice.
Room 160 was packed with excited students as soon as the bell rang; the party was a smash hit. Throughout the hour-long event students could be seen enjoying their ramen and bonding through conversation, origami, and playful recreations of the famous Lady and the Tramp noodle. Such a successful collaboration between three clubs is a rare occurrence–and this combination was a first.
“Dear Asian Youth and Chinese and Korean Club have collaborated before, but this is the first time the Japanese Club has been with them,” club sponsor Jenny Shuman said. “It was the students’ idea. They thought, hey, we’ve got these three groups, they’re all very similar, so let’s bring them together at the same time and do a collab.”
The door is open for future collaborations, Shuman said, leaving limitless opportunities for unity to blossom throughout Novi’s diverse communities.
